She is discarding her body.
With careful,
calculated
motions.
She whispers her hair to the ground.
Strands sticking to her skin.
It tangles in the meadowlands,
if the sparrows do not collect it.
They have watched, from the hedgerows.
Still: too animal,
too muscle, too gore.
As the crows make their landing,
she steps out of the carcass –
no longer beast, or woman.
Jayd Green is a UK poet that has always been fascinated with nature, animals and the ever-changing landscape. Currently living in Norwich to complete a MA in Creative Writing (Poetry) at the University of East Anglia, she reads her poetry at various festivals throughout Suffolk and Norfolk in the summer. In 2018, Jayd won first place in the Student New Angle Prize for her poem, ‘Dunwich Woods’.
