Issue Four: Unrequited Love

Happy Halloween! Nothing is scarier than unrequited love. Our contributors put their all into this Issue and we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed it. Time to get spooky with Issue Four!

Léna (she/they) is a 21-year-old kid from the Paris suburbs. She makes art inspired by her experience as a child of the West African diaspora living in French suburbia grappling with gender and sexuality. Her main medium is digital and film photography as well as collage, and two of her pieces were published in rose quartz magazine. She is tragically majoring in political science and can be found making obscure playlists, watching woodworking videos, and fuming over capitalism. Don’t text her in a crisis.

Juliette Sebock is a Best of the Net-nominated poet and writer and the author of Mistakes Were Made, Micro, How My Cat Saved My Life and Other Poems, and Boleyn, with work forthcoming or appearing in a wide variety of publications. She is the founding editor of Nightingale & Sparrow, runs a lifestyle blog, For the Sake of Good Taste, and is a regular contributor with Marías at Sampaguitas, Royal Rose, Memoir Mixtapes, and The Poetry Question. When she isn’t writing (and sometimes when she is), she can be found with a cup of coffee and her cat, Fitz. Jessica Minyard (she/her) is an author, poet, adjunct, higher ed professional, and new mom. She has an MFA from Lindenwood University and her short fiction and poetry has appeared in Flash Fiction Magazine, Slink Chunk Press, Capulet Magazine, Vamp Cat Magazine, salt + vinegar zine, Nightingale and Sparrow and is forthcoming from Kaleidotrope. Her poem, “the names they call us,” was recently anthologized in War Crimes Against the Uterus by Wide Eyes Publishing.

Meg is a writer and poet currently based in Dublin, Ireland. She copywrites for coin and runs on cold brew and hope. Her work has featured in Kissing Dynamite Poetry, Crêpe & Penn, honey & lime and GCN. Her debut collection ‘Love in the time of candida’ will be started any day now. Linda M. Crate’s poetry, short stories, articles, and reviews have been published in a myriad of magazines both online and in print. She has six published chapbooks A Mermaid Crashing Into Dawn (Fowlpox Press – June 2013), Less Than A Man (The Camel Saloon – January 2014), If Tomorrow Never Comes (Scars Publications, August 2016), My Wings Were Made to Fly (Flutter Press, September 2017), splintered with terror (Scars Publications, January 2018), more than bone music (Clare Songbirds Publishing, March 2019), and one micro-chapbook Heaven Instead (Origami Poems Project, May 2018). Emma Rose is a multidisciplinary artist and writer from Hamtramck, Michigan. She is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy’s creative writing program, and received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Eastern Michigan University. Lysz Flo” is a trilingual writer of fiction and poetry focusing on self love, cultural identity and women’s empowerment.She initiated her spoken word performances in September 2015. She performs throughout South Florida including the RAW Miami Showcase. Lizz has self published Lysz Flo Reflects (Jan 2019) and is working on her second body of work to be released in 2020. 

Melliana Mulugeta is a self-published Author, The Drinking Well, a chapbook poetry collection – released in April 2017. Melliana is based in Washington D.C. Her poems have been published in two digital magazines as she continues to write and post her own poems via Instagram and blog Poetry & Passion.

Venus Davis is a 20-year-old nonbinary writer from Cleveland, Ohio. They are a former poetry reader for Random Sample Review, a social media content creator for Ayaskala, and a podcaster for Prismatica Magazine. Venus is a regular contributor for Marias at Sampaguitas and Ayaskala. Their work has been featured in InQluded, Marias at Sampaguitas, and Ayaskala. They are currently working on self publishing their first chapbook, which is centered around astrology. Aside from writing, they love learning about philosophy, astrology, and the Korean language. They also play guitar, ukulele, and piano for fun sometimes. Their main goal is to be confessional and compassionate in their writing and in life.

Sam Rose is a writer from England and the editor of Peeking Cat Poetry Magazine. Her work has appeared in Scarlet Leaf Review, Rat’s Ass Review, The Bitchin’ Kitsch, Haiku Journal, and others. She is a three times cancer survivor and will soon be embarking on her PhD, researching the role of poetry in psycho-oncology. Haley McKinnon is an emerging poet based in Portland, OR. She holds a BA in creative writing from Pacific University, and currently works as an editor for Cascadia Rising Review. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Almagre Review, TROU Magazine, Seaglass Hearts from Stormy Island Publishing, and Elephants Never. 

Ellora Sutton, 22, is a Creative Writing MA student from Hampshire, England. She has been published in Poetry Birmingham Literary Journal, The Cardiff Review, The Hellebore, Re-side, Honey & Lime, and Poetry News, among others, and won the 2019 Hampshire Prize. Precious Ferrell is a 21 year old undergrad student majoring in Legal Studies. She mainly writes about love, or the lack thereof, and the importance of black lives. She has been published in Harness Magazine, and now Royal Rose Magazine as well. She plans to keep pushing to get her work into the world more so everyone can get the chance to see her work!

Aashika Suresh is a sunlight seeker, poetry aficionado, coffee addict and a perpetual paradox. She lives in Chennai, India, and recently gave up her full-time job as a journalist to try her hand at freelance writing. Her poems have appeared in Visual Verse, Bones Journal, WiFi for Breakfast (A Wingword Poetry Anthology), Wax Art and Poetry, and Erbacce Press: Issue 58, among others. Sarah Marquez is an MA candidate at Southern New Hampshire University. Emma Easy writes poetry and nonfiction and lives in Cornwall, UK. She studied Writing, Nature and Place at the University of Exeter. Her work has been published in Lighthouse Journal, The Hunger and Rust + Moth.

Carla Durbach is a psychologist by profession but a writer at heart. Her poetry has appeared in Little Rose, Bonnie’s Crew,  ‘The Castle’ (Blog of Royal Rose) and is upcoming in Lost Pen

Margaret King is a Wisconsin author who enjoys penning poetry, short stories, and novellas. Her recent work has appeared in Nightingale & Sparrow, VampCat Magazine, Ghost City Press, Bombus Press, and Mojave He(art) Review. She is also the author of the poetry collection, Isthmus.
