Waiting Up by Juliette Sebock

There’s something sort of sacred
in telling someone to be safe,
sitting in the dark until
they’ve made it home okay.

It could seem a bit too paternal,
stifling in its security,
but when the right person
wants to know that you’re okay,

It’s sort of like hearing them say,

“I love you.”
