pandemonium: the body by Hannah Schoettmer

there is a 24-hour grace period / between each change. each sunrise you are different / you become beautiful. you change color. you grow a snaggletooth and greasy bangs / you disappear and reappear but generally / weigh the same: approx. 150 pounds / every time you are seen you are new / both always shifting and immune to transformation / nobody knows if that is a feature you share with god / or the most chaotic and horrific way / a creature could possibly exist: writhing; shifting; boiling; firm;

 

Hannah Schoettmer is a high school junior living in the Pacific Northwest. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of Butcher Papers, a youth-focused literary magazine, which can be found online at butcherpapers.org.
