Two Pieces (To the girl who said I set her on fire & Level) by Taylor Rossics

To the girl who said I set her on fire:

I’m paying attention now
everyone is
because you decided
to bathe in gasoline
and lighter fluid,
and then you decided to steal
my lighter, my matches, my blowtorch
and enlighten all of us.
None of us realized
that you
would burn alive
before asking us to love you.

Level

Sometimes we think, that balance
means cutting off the excess
but,
you can have a thousand feelings on one side
and another thousand on the other,
and still be balanced.

Taylor is a junior in the creative writing major at the University of Maine at Farmington. She loves tea and rain and dislikes coffee and snow. She hopes to continue to get a masters.
